Planning & Engineering

DESIGN

Once you’re ready to move forward, our team gets to work on custom plans — floor layouts, structural drawings, exterior elevations, and material specifications. We collaborate with licensed engineers to ensure your design is both beautiful and structurally sound for Texas conditions.

Approvals & Compliance

PERMITS

Permitting is where a lot of contractors drop the ball. Fortress handles every application, submittal, and inspection coordination on your behalf. We’ve built in every county across North Texas and know the local requirements inside and out — so there are no delays from missed paperwork.

Construction

BUILD

This is where Fortress earns its reputation. Our in-house crew handles site preparation, foundation, steel erection, roofing, and finishing — all with the same team you’ve been working with from day one. We don’t sub out critical work to unknowns. You get consistent quality, start to finish.

Completion

HANDOFF

Before we hand over the keys, we walk the entire structure with you — top to bottom, every inch. We want you to find anything we missed before you do. You’ll receive your full warranty documentation, inspection records, and a direct line to Mike’s team for any future questions. We build relationships, not just buildings.

How long does a typical build take?

Timeline varies by project scope. A standard metal garage or shop can be complete in 6–10 weeks from permit approval. A full barndominium typically runs 4–8 months depending on complexity, finish level, and county permitting. We’ll give you a realistic timeline during consultation — we don’t promise what we can’t deliver.

We handle everything. Permit applications, engineer-stamped drawings, county submittals, and inspection scheduling are all managed by Fortress. You won’t need to set foot in a permitting office.

Cost depends heavily on size, complexity, site conditions, and finish level. A basic metal shop might start around $30–$50/sq ft while a fully finished barndominium can run $80–$150/sq ft or more. The best way to get a realistic number is a free estimate — we’ll walk through your project and give you honest pricing.

Yes. We work with several preferred lenders who specialize in construction and barndominium financing. Ask us about your options during the consultation — many of our clients are surprised at how accessible financing has become for steel construction projects.

You don’t need land to start the design process, but you will need to own or have an accepted contract on land before we can pull permits. We can begin planning while you finalize your property — many clients start with us while still searching for land.

Every Fortress-built structure carries a comprehensive structural warranty. In addition, you receive all manufacturer warranties on steel panels, roofing systems, doors, and hardware. Full documentation is provided at handoff and we remain reachable for the lifetime of your building.
